“If you bring forth what is within you, it will save you. If you do not bring forth what is in you, it will destroy you.” †

Devin Oatway graduated Stanford University in 2002 with a BA in English Literature. In 2003, he was diagnosed with Schizophrenia and retreated into a world of delusion and detective novels. In 2005 he began to paint. Squiggly lines gave way to patchworks of color and finally figurative drawing-like paintings. He helped found two co-ops, Shady Lane Studios in Austin, TX, and Firehouse Art Collective in Berkeley, CA, where he had his first solo show in 2010. Today he lives and paints in Ojai, CA, and tries to live like a monk.
